In an ongoing effort to combat the alarming pedestrian road fatality rates, Putco has spearheaded a vital, multi-agency Pedestrian Road Safety Awareness Campaign. Guided by the principle that “one death is one too many,” Putco has partnered with key law enforcement and road safety bodies including the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and the Gauteng Department of Community Safety to target high-risk corridors and communities such as Soweto , Big Tree and Soshanguve. Through direct, high-impact activations at busy intersections, the campaign actively educates pedestrians on avoiding jaywalking, staying focused around heavy transport vehicles, and practicing safe, visible road-crossing habits.
Beyond commuter education, the initiative places a critical focus on protecting young learners in high-density traffic zones. As part of this drive, Putco is equipping local primary schools with official scholar patrol kits, while running interactive educational sessions to instil lifelong road safety habits in young pedestrians. By aligning internal bus driver vigilance training with active community outreach, Putco reinforces its unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable road users, fostering shared responsibility, and ensuring that every journey whether on foot or on board ends safely.
