Un-roadworthy bakkie cause of PUTCO accident in Mpumalanga

Wednesday, 16 March 2016: Two Putco buses were involved in a head-on collision on the R568 at Kameelpoort at about 05h00 this morning.

One bus was on its way to a starting point while the other was on its way to Pretoria with passengers onboard when the accident occurred. There was a broken down bakkie standing in the middle of the road covered with tree branches from behind with no warning signs displayed. The driver of the bus that was travelling to Pretoria swerved to the right to avoid collision with the stationary bakkie, lost control and collided head-on with the bus which was travelling from South to North to load passengers.

The accident resulted in the unfortunate passing on of the driver who was on his way to a starting point. The driver of the other bus together with 31 passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

Putco officials visited the Kwa-Mhlanga hospital and found that 26 passengers had been treated and released while 5 passengers and the driver remain in hospital for further treatment and observation.

Mr. Franco Pisapia, PUTCO Managing Director would like to pass heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wish speedy recovery to those who are still in hospital.
