Mobility for Persons with Disabilities through Access Buses

Putco has unveiled six new Access Buses that will cater for persons with disabilities. A number of organisations were consulted to ensure that the buses meet the needs of this community. The handover ceremony took place in Centurion on 27 August 2026. These buses are a clear indication of Putco’s commitment to ensuring universal access to transportation and mobility. The Soshanguve, Tshwane/Mpumalanga and Soweto will each get two buses.

Putco Managing Director Franco Pisapia says the involvement and contribution of the community of persons living with disabilities has made an immense difference in how the process is undertaken. Inclusion expert from the SA Disability Alliance, Mandy Latimore, has welcomed the launch of the new buses but says more needs to be done by all stakeholders in the transport sector. Putco Board Chairperson Professor Anna Mokgogong has highlighted that ensuring access to transport for persons with disabilities, is fundamentally a human rights issue and says she is proud that Putco has taken a step to safeguard the dignity of people by providing transport that will allow them to move independently.
